About

The role of power electronics in electric utilities is changing from an enabling technology for renewable generation and energy efficiency improvement, to an underpinning technology for grid modernization.  Electronic power transmission and distribution grids, which can efficiently manage electricity among power electronic-based sources and loads, are being envisioned for the future.

Following the success of the second workshop (IEEE eT&D 2017, held in Aalborg Denmark), now the rebranded 3rd IEEE Workshop on the Electronic Grid (eGrid 2018) was held on November 12-14, 2018, in Charleston, SC, USA at the Charleston Convention Center. This international workshop, organized in cooperation with Clemson University, focused on presentations by industry leading experts and included electronic poster paper sessions.

The program consisted of executive panel sessions, invited industry panels, and technical presentations from government, industry, and academia. All presentations will be archived in the IEEE Resource Center. Full papers will be archived in IEEE Xplore. Industry leaders, researchers, engineers and students in both power electronics and electric power systems presented and exchanged their views of the latest advances in electronic power transmission and distribution technologies and systems. Grid stability and resilience, DERs, microgrids, standards and power quality issues will be the focus of eGrid 2018.

A summary of IEEE eGrid 2018 can now be found in the March 2019 issue of the IEEE Power Electronics Magazine. For the full article, please see our page here.  To download the PDF version of the article, click here
